Frequently asked questions — from the first look to the days after

Here we answer everything that matters about the Sonnenterrassen Trail — registration, preparation, the event days, following it live and everything afterwards. Some details are still being finalised: where that is the case we say so plainly, and the binding information will follow here, in the news and in the newsletter. If your question is still open: get in touch — we are happy to help.

The Sonnenterrassen Trail — the basics

What is the Sonnenterrassen Trail?

The Sonnenterrassen Trail is a trail running event on the Salzburg sun terrace in St. Veit im Pongau with three races — K12, K35 and K53 — on Saturday 22 May 2027. The Dorf-Run team race takes place the evening before, on Friday. Together the two days make up the 28th running festival. The organiser is Trailrunning Club Sonnenterrasse.

When does the Sonnenterrassen Trail 2027 take place?

The 28th running festival runs from Friday 21 to Saturday 22 May 2027: the Dorf-Run on Friday evening, the trail races K12, K35 and K53 on Saturday. The current programme is on the event page.

Where are the start and finish?

The start, the finish and the event centre are planned for the market square in St. Veit im Pongau. The binding locations, including race number collection and the briefing venue, are in the programme on the event page.

Which races and distances are there?

There are three trail races on Saturday: K12 (12 km, 400 m), K35 (35 km, 1,700 m) and K53 (53 km, 3,000 m). The exact routes are currently being worked out; as soon as they are fixed you will find GPX data and elevation profiles on the race pages. On Friday evening there is also the Dorf-Run team race.

What does the Sonnenterrassen Trail have to do with the Schwarzach-Trail?

It is the successor: from 2027 the established team behind the Schwarzach-Trail is putting on the event under a new name, with a new club and a new start and finish in St. Veit im Pongau. The results from the Schwarzach years remain available in the results archive.

Who is the organiser?

Trailrunning Club Sonnenterrasse (register number 1890997058), based in St. Veit im Pongau. You can read more about the club on the club page, and reach it through the contact page.

Who is the event suitable for?

For everyone: the K12 is a good way into trail running, while the K35 and K53 challenge ambitious runners. At the Dorf-Run on Friday evening, clubs, companies, families and groups of friends compete as teams of three — there it is mainly about the fun of doing it together. Watching at the market square is free.

How do I keep up to date?

Through the news, the newsletter and push notifications (switch them on using the bell icon at the top right). Important milestones such as the opening of registration are announced there first.

Registration & your place

When does registration open?

Online registration opens on 1 November 2026 at 10:00 here on the website. If you do not want to miss the moment: subscribe to the newsletter or switch on push notifications.

Payment is made directly during registration through a certified online payment provider — by credit card among other methods. You will see the exact payment methods at the payment step.

How do I know my place is confirmed?

You receive a confirmation, and you appear in the public start list for your race as “Confirmed”. If it says “Pending”, the payment has not been completed yet — your browser will remind you on the website to finish the purchase.

Can I cancel or change my entry?

The entry fee cannot be refunded — whatever the reason for withdrawing. So please take your time over the decision to enter.

For questions about your registration you can reach us through the contact page; the binding rules are in the terms of participation.

Is there late entry on site?

Yes. Late entries are possible on site up to one hour before the respective start, as long as the limit of 133 places per race has not been reached. On site the late entry rate applies (K12 €60, K35 €110, K53 €115).

Do I need an account? How does the runner login work?

Your runner account is created automatically when you enter a race — there is no separate sign-up. Logging in works without a password: enter your email address in the runner area and click the login link in the email. In your profile you will find your entries, your results and your settings.

Can I support the club when I register?

Yes — during registration you can voluntarily add a supporting membership. You can also support us independently of that; all the options are on the club page.

Preparation, getting there & accommodation

Where is the best place to stay?

All our recommendations are on the accommodation page: our partner house Hotel Metzgerwirt right in the village, and the booking site of the Salzburger Sonnenterrasse tourist board with everything the region has to offer.

How do I get there, and where can I park?

St. Veit im Pongau lies on the Salzburg sun terrace above the Salzach valley; Schwarzach-St. Veit station (Tauern railway) is close by. We will publish detailed travel and parking information in good time before the event — the contact page will answer specific questions.

Is there compulsory kit?

The compulsory kit for each race will be published on the race pages together with the final courses. Until then: trail shoes and equipment suited to mountain weather are a good idea in every race. The contact page will answer any open questions.

When will the courses be available as GPX?

The routes for 2027 are being worked out. As soon as they have been finally measured, GPX downloads and elevation profiles will be available on the race pages for K12, K35 and K53 — we will announce their publication in the news.

When and where do I collect my race number?

As things are planned at the moment, on Friday from 17:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday from 07:00, staggered by race — you will find the binding times and the location in the programme.

Is the briefing compulsory?

Yes — before each race there is a compulsory briefing on Saturday morning with the latest information on the course, the weather and safety. The times for each race are in the programme.

Are there showers, changing rooms and a bag drop?

Showers are available at the sports facility, and toilets in the municipal building and in the places around the market square. We are currently organising the bag drop — as soon as the location is settled you will find it in runner services and in the programme.

The event days — programme & schedule

What does the programme for the two days look like?

The main day is Saturday 22 May 2027: race number collection from 07:00 staggered by race, compulsory briefings, starts during the morning, the finish celebration at the market square, and in the evening the prize giving and the after-trail party. On the Friday before, race numbers can be collected the evening before (17:00–20:00); a children's trail with a club run on Friday evening is being planned as a separate event. The full programme is updated continuously.

When do the races start on Saturday?

As things stand: K53 at 08:00, K35 at 10:00 and K12 at 11:00. The compulsory briefings take place 30 minutes before each. The programme on the event page is what counts.

Is there a time limit or are there cut-off times?

The K53 has a time limit of 11 hours. For every race the finish closes at 19:00. Cut-off times at individual points on the course will be published with the final route.

What food and drink is there on the course?

At the aid stations there is water, sports drink, cola, salt, fruit, bread as well as sausage and Landjäger — no gels. How many stations there are and how far apart they lie will be settled with the final routing; we will publish the distances together with the elevation profiles. At the finish, the finish catering with music at the market square is waiting from midday onwards.

When are the prize giving and the party?

As things stand: the prize giving at 19:30 on the market square stage for all races, followed from 20:00 by live music with Juvaranka to round off the day together.

What is there for spectators?

The event centre at the market square with the finish, food and drink and music — plus the live results and the live runner tracking on every phone. Admission is free.

What happens in bad weather?

Safety comes first: if necessary, courses are adjusted or races changed — the rules for that are in the terms of participation. We communicate current decisions immediately through the website, push notifications and on site at the briefing.

Will photos and videos be taken?

Yes, photos and videos are taken at the event for reporting and for the review — the details are governed by the terms of participation and the privacy policy. The finest pictures end up in the gallery after the event.

Following it live — results, GPS tracking & app

Where do I see the live results on event day?

On the results page for the event — it updates itself continuously on event day. Previous years are always available in the results archive.

Is there GPS live tracking of the runners?

Yes, that is firmly planned: the runner app sends the position to the live map on the website, so that family and fans can see at any time where their runners are. A demo of the live map is already online — including the option to share your own phone's position as a test.

Is there an app?

The website can be installed on your phone as an app (“Add to Home Screen”) and can send you push notifications. A dedicated runner app with GPS tracking in the background is in development and will be announced in good time before the event.

How do I switch on push notifications?

Using the bell icon at the top right: open it, tap “Enable push” and confirm the browser prompt. After that, important news arrives straight on your device — you can unsubscribe at any time in your browser settings.

Are the start lists public?

Yes, on each race page you can see live who has already confirmed their place — naturally only with the usual start list details such as name, year of birth, nation and place of residence.

Which details can I change myself in my profile?

You can change your email address, phone number and profile picture (with a crop function) yourself in the runner area. Core details such as name, year of birth and nation are tied to the timing system — if something is wrong there, use the correction link in your profile or the contact page.

After the event

Where do I find the results after the event?

The complete results lists for every race remain permanently available in the results archive — filterable by event, race and category, including the earlier Schwarzach-Trail years. When you are logged in you see all your own results together in the runner area.

Where are the photos from the event?

In the gallery — that is where we collect our photographers' albums after the event, as we have done for the previous trails. The aftermovie appears in the review.

Are there certificates and ITRA points?

Both are being clarified and will be announced here and in the news in good time. If you have specific plans that depend on it (e.g. ITRA points for a UTMB qualification), get in touch with us directly.

I have lost something or there is a problem with my result — what do I do?

In both cases the contact page is the place to go: we collect lost property after the event, and objections to results are subject to the deadlines in the terms of participation.

Children's run, club & getting involved

What is planned for the children's trail?

A children's trail — together with the club run — is being planned for Friday evening (21 May 2027) as a separate, additional event. Whether and in what form it takes place is currently being decided within the team; as soon as it is settled it will be here, in the news and in the newsletter. For specific questions in advance: contact.

What is the Dorf-Run?

There is no team classification for the trail races on Saturday. If you want to compete as a team, the Dorf-Run on Friday evening is the place: three people form a team and the individual times are added up.

How do I become a member of Trailrunning Club Sonnenterrasse?

Membership is currently free of charge — everything you need to know, and how to join, is on the club page. If you want to do more, you can become a supporting member or back the club with a donation.

I would like to help at the event — how does that work?

We would like to become a sponsor or partner — who do we talk to?
